Benediction was one of the hardest items in game to get in vanilla. That damn quest part where you had to keep the villagers alive was a bitch. Never mind that if you failed, it had a 3 hour reset and was global so if someone beat you to it, you were just screwed. Add to that you had to solo it and it was epically hard.
The only other thing that came close was the quest line for the Dreadsteed warlock mount. It was a gold sink and was a tough quest line.

I'm glad Blizzard returned some of the difficulty with the Nighthold Mythic raids. Only 4 guilds in the world have been able to beat just 7 out of the 10 bosses and no one's close to beating the 8th.
