The engine in a 11 and up F150 should not be a problem. Best build in a while by Ford, and timing chains were problems in 5.4L mostly in part to people not changing the oil on schedule or with cheap brands. As said above, even the 15 and ups have worse problems with actuators. Still a rather cheap fix compared to major power train problems.

Timing chains have never been a problem on the 5.4's. The plastic tensioner guides wear due to poor OCI's and maintenance practices. 400k out of a 5.4L is easy. A known fix to the tensioner guides is to polish the outside edge of the chain but it is a tedious process. Ford did this to the chains used on the SVT program vehicles.

Something I adhere to and don't skimp on the brand. Doing that is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying another truck.
