It is not that simple. They can backcount against the current year but most of the time they count to the following year. The NCAA provides an exception to allow early entrees to count for the following year.
Think about it. Who wants to burn a year of eligibility on a Spring practice?
What I want to know is how did Bama "process" 12 scholarships to have room under the 85 and nobody notice...
