After bragging about the power and efficiency for years, I'm here to eat my words and call it the POS that it really is. At a little over 100K, I get the timing chain rattle at cold startup that FORD has acknowledged for years but won't fix outside of warranty. It's a common problem that seems to plague 2011-2015 Ecoboost motors. Ford service has a TSB for it and wants $4k to fix the issue.

I'll give you 4k cash for the truck today, deal?

I'll be the ugly, fat guy wearing the US flag shirt speaking Spanish.

You're complaining because your engine worked well for over 100k miles

If it hasn't thrown the chain or blown a valve or lifter yet it isn't that hard to replace. I did one. Check a private shop. $4k is high.

Try calling their corporate hotline. They might help you out with costs if you agree to buy an extended warranty or something.

These are very common problems with Fords. Sometimes they help people out. Sometimes they don't.

It is a common problem that dates back to their Mazda days. The CX7 had similar issues. I have been a big critic of turbo engines in pickups. I think they are beautiful trucks, but go with the V8.

I've never seen a turbo charged gas engine that held up on the long term.

I must have the same noise.

I haven't diagnosed it but I have noticed a few seconds of odd noise at cold startup.

It never lasts long so I've always ignored it

I'm planning on trading mine in soon anyway

I'm not sure why you wouldn't have gotten a 5.0

I'd love an F150 but don't trust a turbo to hold up. I'll get the V8 even if it's less fun to drive.
