Croce was so awesome. "Operator" always brings a warm and fuzzy feeling when I listen to it. Such a talented song writer.
I've always wondered why "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" were practically the same long, just in different lyrics. Both are badass songs; I guess he loved the underdog story and the lesson that there's always someone bigger/badder/tougher/better/richer.
Good stuff. Oh also, IIRC he had really exploded between the time he booked the Natchitoches gig, and the date of the actual gig. He could have cancelled, due to such a small venue for a star of his newfound fame, but he decided to be loyal to his fans. Sucks the gig was the fate of him.
