Elk hunting in Wyoming in the Medicine Bow national forest. 3 of us stopped on a mountain ridge to eat lunch. While eating, we heard some does blowing warning sounds on the ridge below us. We walked to the edge to look over the edge and see what was spooking them. Then 20 yards to our right we see a mountain lion walking straight at us along the ridge. It walked to within 7 paces before he looked right at us. All three of us were standing together side by side. I started to pull out my camera but the cat spooked and ran down the ridge. This cat looked very big up close. His head was bigger than a cinderblock. Nobody in the group was armed except for archery equipment and it was 15 yards away. Never felt in danger (didn't have time) but so in awe of the animal. One of my favorite memories in the outdoors.
