Thanks baws. I put it on a log away from me and it was still very off. I have several of those cheap clip on ones that I keep attached to various gear as backup as well. Fortunately I was taught about moss growing on the north side of trees and can generally navigate pretty good based on that usually. Honestly I've relied on my gps for too many years and try to just use it for waypoints now.

Don't count on that. Also, knowing how to use a map and compass is a great skill. I've been many places where a GPS has a hard time locking onto satellites. I used my compass almost exclusively in the woods.
