Well let's be honest, gay guys are usually pretty sharp dressers (as well as great decorators). Their fashion taste may not be conventional, but few in fashion are. So who do you think is gonna do a fashion review? Some queer that is into it, or some bubba who wears camo every day and thinks PFG fishing shirts are formal attire?
Besides, networks love to pander to the gay community. A Gay fashion guy meets the requirement.
