3 candidates:

Vance Joseph (Miami Dolphins' DC)
Kyle Shanahan (Atlanta Falcons OC)
Dave Toub (Kansas City ST)

Rumor is that Vance Joseph is the favorite, but if Miami wins their playoff game it win diminish his chances because of "timing." Vance Joseph doesn't want Wade Phillips back as DC, for whatever reason, likely leaving him a free agent to coach wherever he wants. His contract is up. He would likely go with a cheaper option and run his own defense during the week and on gameday.

Kyle Shanahan and Dave Toub have both interviewed, with Kyle Shanahan preferring the Denver job over any other job by a mile. He wants to follow in his father's footsteps and it's likely he would want to keep Wade Phillips on staff. Dave Toub just seems like a back-up plan to a back-up plan at this point.

Wade Phillips wants to stay in Denver and possibly retire there. He has made that known through social media and in the Broncos headquarters. But, I have seen him connected to the Oakland Raiders job on Twitter recently if Denver were to let him walk (would be a huge mistake, IMO).

John Elway is giving the new head coach the green light to hire his own assistants, per sources.

Why? It's not like he needs to go out recruiting before NSD. I'm just saying, if that's the guy they want, they wait if necessary.

The idea of Phillips paired with Shanahan's offense in Denver is intriguing.

Denver would be stupid to hire a defensive coach for hc. Keep Wade and get a hc to fix the offense.

Why is Vance Joseph such a seemingly hot commodity? The Dolphins ranked 29th this season in total defense. That's not good.

frick no. You take this rumor back to your house and put it in a trash can and then take that bag out and take it to the corner where it needs to be picked up and taken to the dump to be never seen again.

Fully agree.

I want a Kyle Shanahan and Wade Phillips combo.

I wonder the same. Denver is incredibly high on him for some reason. He was almost hired over Gary Kubiak.

Someone (I'm looking at you John Elway) needs to tell Joseph to frick off. Phillips is the reason the Broncos won that SB last year and the reason they were competitive this year.

I'm trying to figure this out as well, hoping these "rumors" are unfounded and just put out there to satisfy the Rooney rule. I'm not extremely high on Shanahan, but he and Phillips together is by far and away the best possibility on the table. I wasn't extremely high on Kubiak either, for what it's worth.

I honestly did not know who VJ was. But based on the incongruity of the info in this thread....i knew what he would look like.

Vance Joseph's name is only being mentioned for teams b/c of the Rooney rule. He is not a candidate for any of these jobs.
