My sister(52 y.o) says she's been having memory problems and has an upcoming appointment scheduled with a neurologist. In the meantime she's been freaking out about possibly having Alzheimer's.We looked up some of the memory tests on-line (Mini-Cog, Moca and Mmse). She took these tests and scored in the normal range on all of them. She's still freaking out though. How reliable are these tests in detecting the risk of Alzheimer's?

They are just very basic screening tests, and taking them online is practically worthless. Of course, a neurologist won't give much beyond that testing wise. Ask the neurologist for a referral to a Neuropsychologist for comprehensive testing. Best case scenario, she performs in the normal range and now you have a baseline by which to measure any potential changes in the future.

52 is really young for Alzheimer's, but there are some types of dementia which can have an earlier onset. Good luck.

I am not sure about the tests, but I can tell you that there are one hell of a lot of other things that can cause memory loss besides Alzheimer's.

could be something as simple as some other medicine that she is taking

What type of memory problems?
At 52 and if she is living a busy schedule, we are prone to forget a thing or two. Completely normal.

Seriously, she should try to go Keto immediately.

Keto (and specialty products that encourage ketosis) are being prescribed to concussion and TBI patients with success.

Also starting to show promise in Alzheimer's care/prevention.

Give it 60 days, if no improvement she can go back. What's to lose?

52 is early but definitely a possibility. It's a more aggressive form if it's earlier.

She will probably have the hardest time with bills and writing names.

Alzheimer's is the worst.

I recommend y'all read Grain Brain. It's a little radical in spots but good info mostly. Discusses the causes of Type III diabetes (aka Alzheimer's).
