I'd call out my girl if she ate like that, but I wouldn't do it how you did it. I would have just jokingly asked her why she eats like a caveman

I thinks it's very likely that you approached this like an a-hole, and you insulted her. There's a way to talk to people where you are condescending and attacking someone and another where you treat them like an adult. I'm going to go ahead and assume that you lack tact and the ability to delicately talk to people.
