I got an echo for Christmas and just decided to get GE rocker switches/dimmers (Z Wave) and a Wink Hub 2. Seems to be the simplest way to go about it. Slowly accumulating the switches because they're $30+ a pop. The thing I didn't like about bulbs, other than the expense of buying individual smart bulbs, is that you kind of have to commit to using the smart function rather than wall switches. If you turn off the smart bulbs at the switch, they lose power and can no longer be controlled.

Same here. For multiple bulbs, just seems a smart switch makes more sense.

In general, I tend to prefer switches over bulbs. The idea is to control the power going to the bulb. A switch does this, and will function as a standard mechanical switch when pressed on the wall.

The only time it seems where bulbs make more sense would be where you want color temp control.
