Why wouldn't you do this? Been shooting steel through a full choke all my life (actually the extended range pattern master) and never had any issues

The general rule of thumb for steel shot is that you use one less choke level than lead, so if you want full you use modified. This has been around since steel came out. Most turkey chokes for example say specifically not to use with steel shot.

You can over choke which actually makes the shot hit and then spread out, but its also dangerous as steel won't warp if it is forced down a choke too small there is a minute risk of blowing up your barrel by plugging it up.
