That first episode was such a joke. I really didn't even see what it had to do with technology and how it hurts us. All they did was kidnap someone important and force someone to do something horribly embarrassing to get her back. Technology was a small part of it but not vital. They could have had him frick the pig in the middle of a public square if they wanted to. I started the next episode and could only watch the guy ride that bike for so long. The episode never went anywhere although the use of technology was much more obvious.

The biggest mistake BM ever made was putting the worst episode first and people not realizing that it's not a linear story.

Do youself a favor and watch episode 3, Entire History of You. Taht is what "black mirror" is all about. E1 (national anthem) and The Waldo Moment aren't even real BM episodes and quite frankly kinda suck. Every other episode in the series is far better and have ENTIRELY different feels.

If you watch EHOY and don't like it, hey no problem you gave it a shot. But don't judge BM based on the first episode.

Technology was the theme of the entire episode.
It shows how things can escalate so quickly on social media and can cause a mass group to not understand the severity of a situation until they're all watching a guy frick a pig and it becomes reality. It shows the disconnect technology can cause among society and the distractions. It's spot on really. Probably the weakest episode all and all but still portrayed the message very well.

Without technology. The kidnappers plan doesn't exist. Social media did all of his leg work in meeting his demands.
