We have a 2 keeper league. Any players drafted can be kept the next year at the round drafted -1. Player drafted in the second round can be kept with your 1st round pick, 8th round pick costs a 7th, etc. Any players traded maintain their keeper status in the trade. Any players picked up in free agency cost a 16th round pick the next year. Any players picked up on waivers cost a 12th the next year. Any players picked up on waivers or free agency after the trade deadline are not eligible keepers.

Players kept from the previous season can be kept again the next season, but the cost again goes down 1 round. Player drafted in the 8th round is kept the next 2 years using a 7th and 6th round pick, respectively. Players can be kept a maximum of 3 consecutive years (by any team) before going back into the draft pool.
is it hard to keep track of the keepers?

My 11 year league does Keepers. Hardest thing to keep track of is the initial draft. We take a picture of the draft board and I use that to keep track of the draft picks.

In Late July I ask that everyone trim their potential list of keepers down to 3, then a week before the draft make their decision on their 1 keeper. Players can only be kept 1 year (even if they were traded), so I also keep a list of who was kept the previous year.

Yes and no. I'm the commish, and I just track it all manually in a spreadsheet. There aren't that many changes in this league to where I can just update it every few weeks or so. I don't find it to be hard to do.
