Our family has been going to Wolf Creek for nearly 30 years. Grandparents bought a cabin for the family in South Fork because we enjoy it so much. As stated, no on-site lodging, so that cuts down on some crowds. There is not much to do in South Fork or Pagosa Springs for nightlife, so be prepared to bring your own fun.

The mountain isn't huge, but there are plenty of runs to keep you busy. I have skied all over Colorado, and Wolf Creek always seems to wear me out. Between the powder and no lift lines, you can ski hard all day and definitely be ready to crash once you drive home.

Grew up in Durango and have skied both... just got back to Tucson from Purg last week... conditions are great!! It is a family mountain so there are some lines but the crowd is very relaxed and mostly locals. Wolf is isolated and definitely smaller but they get the most snow in the state.

I vote purg because of Durango and the things you can do once you leave the mountain
