Wait, you have a $200 lab and brought it duck hunting with no formal training? It retrieves well?

By formal training, you mean paying someone to do what I was capable of doing, with the commitment?
If so, then yes. He's impressed me this year.
There were plenty of times that I didn't feel like training that I forced myself to do it. We worked from late October 2015 - this duck season to get ready. He doesn't have the finest tuned lines a field trial dog needs but he gets my birds without me having to leave the blind. It also built an incredible bond with my hunting buddy. Very rewarding process.
It was my first time training and I worked with some guys from the Amite River HRC. They offered some good advice along the way.
