guessing new compressor is around $400, then freon refill at $150-200, then labor. its probably a bit high, but on par for dealer/dealer parts

Depending on the failure, it could just be a simple evac & recharge. So yes, $1,000 is too much. If I was doing the work, then no, $1,000 sounds about right lol
