NOOOOOO! Get someone with no ties to LSU from a basketball heavy school with a real track record. BB needs an entirely new culture that has no connection to LSU basketball past.

I'll take "Former LSU Basketball coaches" Alex

Pre-LSU, this coach's resume included two Sweet 16 appearances with two different schools and being selected COY in two different conferences?

Who is Trent Johnson.

Johnson was a decent coach pre-LSU, but he couldn't recruit in the south. Jones can recruit, be he's a poor coach.

Davis has definitely hit his stride at MTSU over the last 5 years going 123-48 (not counting the 10-3 start this season). But is he your first choice at age 57? He's been at MTSU for 15 years despite several SEC jobs coming available during that time. Don't you have to question why he hasn't got many (if any) serious looks to move up? A knock on Jones was no one else wanted him. Thus, the reason he was at N. Tex. for 11 years. Couldn't you argue the same against Davis?

I don't buy the whole argument that LSU can't attract a proven coach because it isn't "a basketball school." That's bullshite. LSU is second only to UK in most SEC reg. season championships; Fourth in most Final Four appearances (behind UK, UF, Ark); 3rd behind UK and Ark in NCAAT appearances; 2nd only to UK in most all time POY award winners.

Over the last 40 years I think the argument can be made that only UK and Ark have been better programs than LSU. Outside of the on Final Four appearance in '94, Florida's history as a "basketball school" started and ended with Billy Donovan.

LSU has money. LSU is in a power conf. It has the same recruiting advantage as football in terms of geography (still the only big power in Louisiana and very close to East Texas' large population). With the right hire, this program could easily become the next Florida for the next 10-15 years. It just takes a willingness to try to find the right guy. Settling for long-time Sun Belt coaches isn't the ticket.
