TFA it was called for. Literally the day it was announced, my first thought was female protagonist Jedi. It's a very easy and natural way to switch it up since we hadn't seen it before. I think just about every film maker on the planet would have done it.
But Rogue One clearly had a very forced diversity quota. The only white guy was a Nazi. That was bullshite.

oh yeah Rey was pretty great
but following it up? that's almost as bad as using an orphan again
