What are y'alls thoughts on playing a little zone? I'm not talking going strictly to a zone, just showing a zone every once and a while for a change of pace. Maybe when Elbert comes in? I also would not mind pressing with a guard heavy line up from time to time. A press may be good with a line up like - Mays, Sampson, Blankeny, Epps, and Reath. All those guys can run the floor pretty well. But, we could give up a ton of easy baskets.

I truly think that to play good zone you have to coach zone defense exclusively. For most squads who dont truly understand zone defense, it basically forces them on their heels and takes away from any defensive intensity. I'm not a big fan of using zone unless its on random inbounds plays to force an offense out of their original inbounds play.

I do like trying to speed up an opponent by using somne 3/4 court trapping press or a full court man to man. Alot of times telling a player it's full court pressure pushes them to increase their pressure and intensity which is really the biggest thing lacking in our defense when we struggle.

if Jones hasn't done anything right defensively in his time at LSU, he's timing calling "pressure defense" has been pretty good. And, they've been successful with it in the past.

I think our defense is good in spurts. Like last night early in the 2nd half, that was the best I've seen us play defense this year. I think in the Houston game when we had so many tipped passes and blocks, same way. Just hands up, feet moving, and energy. It's to get the young guys to understand that you have to do that all the time, even when your man doesn't have the ball. Mays and Sims looked lost at times when rotating from screens and slacked off right before their man made a cut. Got to keep up the intensity all the time. You're right though, when CJJ came here, we pressed and trapped all the time, even when we didn't have the depth to do it. Pour Shavon Coleman straight up fell out at the end of the SMU game a few years ago from pressing so much.
