I love horseshite like this, someone dares to disagree with you, so it must be because they can't think for themselves.

I saw Star Wars at Lakeside theater in Metairie in 1977 when it was just called Star Wars. No Episode IV, No "A New Hope", just Star Wars. It played until the fall of 1978. I saw Empire the day it was released in 1980 and Jedi the first week it was released in 83. Long before the prequels and message boards, I would have ranked them Empire, Star Wars, Jedi. Not because i was told that or because i "hated" Lucas" but because that's what i thought. I still think Empire and SW are the best of the series BY FAR. Really 1 and 1a.

I do admit I like Jedi a little less than i used to because now, with special editions and the prequels we can appreciate more that Lucas' overall vision was genius, but his ability to tell a great story diminished. Whether it was ego or the fact that with SW he was held in check by the studio and producers I do not know but it seems clear that the Jedi and the prequels, could have been a lot better if he'd left it to others, much like LSU's offense under Les Miles
