I got my kid a phantom 3 standard for Christmas. I've had way more fun with it than he has so far. I was really intrigued by civilian drones when they became available a few years ago. This thing has completely blown my mind. Whenever these Mavic's drop in in price to the $500-600 range I'll definitely buy one.

by then the latest and greatest will be so far more advanced than the mavic. I got 2 right when they came out. I DIYed a drone from Chinese parts i could never get to fly and i have a Phantom 1. The abilities these newer models can do are light years ahead of what the P1 could do even with adding a camera to it. I though i was Badass when i hooked a go pro to it and just flew it around. then i added a chinese Video transmitter that would send me the video real time, that looked like a tube tv from 1980.
