What are y'alls thoughts on Sessions' Senate seat?

Big Luther announced he's running for it.

I haven't been following the procedural part of this with respect to timing of the next election. Will this go straight to a special election or will Bentley appoint a temp?

Perry Hooper Jr seems like he would be a good choice.

Interim appointment by Bentley and then a special election to follow.
Senator Rebekah Mason has a certain ring to it doesn't it?

Gets way too sticky if Bentley does that. I see him appointing Aderholt more so than Strange.
But let's face it, whoever doesn't get appointed will be smart to keep their powder dry. I don't see Shelby running for reelection as an 89 year old.
Normally Strange would be the front runner but the appointment may take that from him.

When is the special Election? Maybe Bentley should appoint himself to the senate than not run in the special how about Roby?

The seat is not technically available yet. It all depends on when Sessions get confirmed.
Roby is an interesting choice but I don't see Bentley choosing anyone over Aderholt. Aderholt is the safe pick, and he's very frustrated now that he lost the bid for the chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

Hell no. That neverTrump little twit will be lucky to hold her seat next go around. She will get strong opposition. She screwed up horribly.

Secretary of State John Merrill wants the position. He may get the appointment just for lack of any real good alternatives.

She truly is a dumbass. Her little stunt of coming out against Trump AFTER he was nominated, almost cost her, her congressional seat. I wish she would have had the wherewithal to have done it before her primary! Her impromptu write-in opponent garnered about 10k votes and did not have any semblance of a campaign post primary. She's done in 2 years.

She had over22,000 write in votes against her. For that small of a district that's saying something.
She's not very liked around here after her little stunt.

safe to say the GOP retains this seat?

Yes. Alabama is a uniparty state in statewide elections right now. Hell the only reason we have even one democratic congressional district is they had to gerrymander this crazy district that zigzags from Selma to tuscaloosa to downtown Birmingham.

You do realize all districts are roughly the same population right?

There's always one in every crowd.
Congrats.
