He admits he didn't call many of the plays. He's well known for designing the entire offensive scheme. If you've got four or five pass plays for a certain situation, does it matter that much if one individual is making all of the calls or if its decision-making by committee?
We want to get away from the predictability of the toss-dive followed by the bomb on third and long. Just because one isn't calling all of the plays doesn't discount his offensive creativity. I'd rather have him analyzing the game and feeding the adjustments to those calling the plays. He's a coordinator - very different than a command and controller. His analytical mind should be his greatest asset. Because Kelly wanted to pick and choose the option elected doesn't make Kelly any more important in the process than was Helfrich. Didn't we all kind of figure that out over his past four years in the NFL? Kelly pretty much has sucked.
So without Helfrich by his side, Chip Kelly is a shitty coach. Hmmm. What do believe Orgeron would prefer? Someone that makes him look better or that gives him less than optimal options facing a defense like Alabama? I'd say the former.

100% agree.

Agree, but here's the deal...who's calling the plays? O? I mean he's not on offensive guy and his big sell was that he lets his coaches coach. Since he is HC i think we have to get an OC that can do it all. I don't think Helfrich sucks, but i think he needs an offensive minded HC to lean on.

I'm not sure if this was meant to be taken seriously or not, but in case it was i don't think it's a fair assessment of Chip at all. Some coaches just aren't nfl coaches...see Saban.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Of course orgeron wants someone that makes him look good. To get that guy he will have to be able to do it all on offense. Similar to an aranda style but on offense.
Im not opposed to helfrich. Im just saying i have certain reservations with him regarding his play calling ability since it seems to be somewhat limited in scope. I don't dispute his schemes/planning is great though.
