Kind of a random question, but who pays for all of the President's suits?

Is there a federal wardrobe budget for him? Does he use his own money or rely on suits he already owns?

I'm not voting for a guy to lead the free world who can't already buy his own suits.

Yes. There's a budget for everything. I doubt the president personally pays for anything, and it would be difficult if he chose to. They take all of your credit cards and other such effects and stick them in a safe.

Most presidents dress well, but not too opulent and yes, there is a tailor. However, you'd be called out if you had a closet full of $10,000 suits.

Unless you're a democrat, namely Michelle Obama, in which case you can do whatever you want and no one will say shite.

I know one of Brooks Brothers big PR/selling points is that every president for the past 100+ years (or something like that) has worn their suits. I guess they likely aren't charging "rack rate" for that PR.

Id bet a chunk that those suits are custom made with a serious amount of calculation of the fact that people will try to do violence to him.

The work on those suits is probably exorbitant, and I don't think tye President should or does pay OOP for those. probably a clothing allowance like all the executive cabinets have.

Typically the President does with his salary. When on campaign trail the parties will pay for cloths.

Obama must have been at the end of his clothes budget when he went to buy jeans. Poor guy had to settle for mom jeans.

A common myth is that the president and family pay for almost nothing, in reality they pay for all the own clothes, every thing form toothpaste to toilet paper in the residence and most meals.

LINK

"There’s no free lunch – or breakfast or dinner – for President Barack Obama on Thanksgiving Day. Or any other day, for that matter."

"Obama also pays for other basics – everything from toothpaste to dry cleaning."

“All those things that are personal in nature that we all pay for, the first family pays for,” he said

"Another cost is private parties, such as the 50th birthday bash Obama threw earlier this year for first lady Michelle Obama. For private events, presidents pay for food and beverages, use of waiters and servers and setup and cleanup crews. Taxpayers are only supposed to pay for official government functions."

I thought they now wear these suits constructed of bullet resistant fabric developed by Zegna's mill (or some another Italian company). Not saying all suits, just the ones you see day to day. If you notice, the president (Late Clinton onward it seems) doesn't alter his clothes much like in the past. It's typically the same navy or grey. Reagan and prior wore whoever they preferred.

I know that Johnston & Murphy gives the POTUS shoes. Every President since Millard Fillmore. It's a big selling point for them.

Pretty sure that both Bush and Obama wore Oxxford or one of their brands. Still finest handmade suits in the US. Still out of Chicago I think.
