I do baby shower and deaths but only for my department. And thats because when we had a kid they surprised me with donations.
No one ask to buy candy, etc because I will just hit them with "You want to purchase my kids stuff as well?" And I never ask when my kids have fundraisers for school- i just pay out my pocket.
