What is an appropriate amount to pay for an instant injection of 25 ppg in paint scoring when your superstar big misses an average of 15 games a year? Paying Ryno $20 million to stay in that role was silly.
You hate Jones stylistically, I do too to a certain extent, his shot selection is beyond bad for his skill set. However, he's not nearly as bad as you make him out to be. 16.8 per and .99 WS/48. Per says he above average, WS/48 pegs him right at average. The MLE is by definition average salary, so giving him the $8.4 million MLE would seem to be appropriate if he's able to keep this up. And as bad as he shoots from everywhere outside of the paint, he really should be capable of improving his efficiency by a lot.
