Exactly. People can't see past the fact that there's not a great 2nd team, and can't really grasp that 2-11 are all pretty good. Kentucky is going to a bowl for God's sake. Vandy had a nice win or 2. There aren't the typical auto wins this year like there are in the Big 10. Like I said earlier, the Big 10 was clearly better at the top this year, while the SEC was clearly bette top to bottom. How much you value each is up to you. But to dismiss the SEC strictly because their #2 may have 4 losses is lazy.

I'm of the opinion that the SEC West in particular has recruited so well in the last 5-8 years (better than it ever has top to bottom) that it is actually beginning to cave in on itself. You can't go through a schedule where every team in your division is starting 4 and 5 star players and it not wear on you. Unless, that is, you have 4 and 5 star players 3 deep like Bama does.

The SEC went 9-2 in bowl games last year. Bowl games aren't everything but I remember much the same narrative last year at this time of year re: the SEC being terrible.

Now, the East is indeed down due to coaching transition (and flat out poor coaching) but you look at wins over the top 2 teams in the ACC Coastal and a win over Top 4 Louisville by a Kentucky and perhaps the notion that it is the worst division in football is overblown.

Using CFP rankings to determine conference strength is extremely flawed, however.

There's some exaggeration to this statement.
