So if Trump wins Florida, hypothetically, 50.1% to 49.9%, he should be considered to have won 100% of that state's popular vote?
This is why I was pulling for Trump to win: the Cirque du Soliel style mental gymnastics that are going to unfold over the next 4-8 years are going to usher in the Golden Age of entertainment on this board.

If the entire population (state pop) did not vote then how come we award ALL the electors which is based on total state population. Example Florida 29 EV but only 60% voted?

The people who do not vote are not factored into the equation. I don't see how that is a point of contention. My only point was that he did not win the majority of votes. He won what counted, and that's a majority of the EC. I don't understand why this is such big deal. It's simply facts. You can't say he won a majority of the voters (the people). He won the majority of the EC, which is why he is president. This whole math thing is really not that hard.

This is how America voted at the county level. If you want LA values in Murfreesboro, or Waterloo, or Pass Christian, you would be against the EC. If you want a tax revenue vacuum into NYC from workers in Pensacola, Lubbock, or Cedar Rapids then you would be against the EC.

Our framers designed it this way for a reason.

They did, but that wasn't the reason.

Liberals really do live in their own, alternate universe, don't they?

Let me treat you to a quote by President James Madison.
quote:

[In a pure democracy], [a] common passion or interest will, in almost every case, be felt by a majority of the whole; a communication and concert results from the form of government itself; and there is nothing to check the inducements to sacrifice the weaker party or an obnoxious individual. Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths

President Hamilton agreed...

quote:

The mode of appointment of the Chief Magistrate of the United States is almost the only part of the system . . . which has escaped without severe censure. . . . I venture somewhat further, and hesitate not to affirm that if the manner of it be not perfect, it is at least excellent...[t]he ancient democracies, in which the people themselves deliberated, never possessed one feature of good government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure, deformity.

.

How about President John Adams?

quote:

[D]emocracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.

Maybe George Mason?

quote:

Notwithstanding the oppressions & injustice experienced among us from democracy, the genius of the people must be consulted.

How did any of that contradict my comment that to suggest the EC was set up to keep flyover states relevant is false?

Nope.

I think Trump won all counties in Utah and WV also.

He may have "won" the presidency but the fact remains that Hillary Clinton received over 2.5 million votes than him. The fact remains that if less than 50,000 voters in three Midwestern states had changed their votes he would be relegated to the dustbin of history.

So go ahead and gloat in smugness at the detriment of this great country . Just rest assured that I and millions of more people in this country will never accept him and he will always be viewed as illegimate.

I will never say I want him to fail but I have no doubt that's what the end result is going to be.

The title of your OP is very telling. YOu have to remind people that Trump "won" the Presidency.

You should be thankful for the Electoral College. Whithout it the GOP will probably never win another Presidential Election.

Hell, they have won the majority of votes exactly once in the past 28 years.

It will not surprise me in the least if he doesn't quit before his four years is up.
