The best offense in NFL history, the 2007 patriots, was very arguably a spread offense. We've seen it plenty in the NFL, but the hash marks certainly help limit some of it.

We're seeing an ever increasing use of single back shotgun sets that spread out defenses year after year. There are spread oriented offenses.

The 2007 patriots had two of the best receivers all time on the team in their primes - Moss/Welker

That's why they smashed records. Brady has never sniffed numbers like that before or since. Total fluke year.
