What is this Cornwell book you all speak of
An English writer named Bernard Cornwell has written several series of historical fiction books. They deal primarily with military situations and battles in different periods of history. They are usually told through the viewpoint of someone below the major players like Alfred, Ivar, etc.
The series that is the most relevant to Vikings is called Saxon Stories or The Warrior's Chronicles. The main character is a guy named Uthred of Bebbanburg who was born a Saxxon nobleman but captured and adopted by the Danes when he was young. The first book is The Last Kingdom. Netflix made a series on it and the first season was good (I like the book better but the series is solid). 2nd season should be in production I think.
