The LASS redfish tourney and Tag Louisiana have each been canceled recently after many years of being run successfully. The reasons given for their cancelation was about funding but each was propped up by grants or funds other than state funds, so the reasons are flawed and you are left to draw your own conclusions.
Nearly all of the actions of LDWF since he took over go against the recreational angler community.
Read Todd Mason's article in today's NOLA.com article about the cancelation of TAG Louisiana and you get an idea.

Melancon was appointed by JBE with the sole intention of gutting the agency to fund other areas of the state budget. He's not the problem, he's an instrument being used by the problem. If he steps down another one will simply take his place.

Trout. If you can tell me honestly that trout fishing across the state is what it was five years ago I'll gladly put a big camo dunce cap as my avi.

Snapper is a huge issue for me. We have worked very hard to ensure that Louisiana and Gulf fisherman have adequate accessibility to the red snapper that are off the coast of our states. Finally a few years ago, all of the states came together and were working to get our snapper back to the recreational guys.

Incomes Charlie Boy Melancon. Mr. Melancon has so little experience with wildlife and the outdoors that it is an embarrassment to our state to have him at the helm of the department.

The outdoorsmen voted for an increase in license costs to fund this red snapper initiative. As we always do, the sportsman are paying to protect the resource that tree-huggers cry over. This is money from our pocket. The price increase was voted on at the same time the Federal Duck Stamp prices went up. No one complained. We know how important the conservation of these species are to us.

Now, the Political Puppet that is Charlie Melancon steps in and nixes the very thing we agreed to increase the license prices for. Did the license fees return? Of course not.

If you buy a fishing license and enjoy the bounty that the Louisiana outdoors offers, you should be upset about how LDWF is being run by this man that does not care about Louisiana's Wildlife or Fisheries
