New Iberia Haircut - is it really a real thing? Or is it just a joke?

What I mean is: Do people in New Iberia call their haircuts the "New Iberia Haircut" or do outsiders simply use the retarded haircut to make fun of people who live in New Iberia?

If that makes sense.

I saw one in AL last week. Stopped my wife talking, and said "damn, there is a NIB haircut." Everyone was just looking at me.

No, it's just a standard haircut for us.

I rock the NIH. I keep my bangs a lot longer and spike them up to make it look halfway decent. Hell, I can't deny my native roots baw!

I know one person from New Iberia via marriage to a friend.

I laughed amongst myself the first time I met him, had the haircut on point

I used to rock the NIH once upon a time. You're afforded a certain amount of respect around those parts when rocking that cut.

One cant just receive a New Iberia Haircut and walk out the door thinking "frick yea baw, I got ma NIH, time go to Wal Mart then get some meth." You have to have a certain level of trashiness to you. If you aren't that trashy, then it'll just look like a haircut. George Clooney in the 90's or Russell Crowe in the movie Gladiator is the perfect example of having a NIH but not really owning a NIH because they don't possess the proper level of natural trashiness. You more than likely have to be missing a few teeth as well for it to take full affect.

Having worked in New Iberia from 2003-2013, I can tell you it is a real thing...and them ole baws don't even realize that they have a NIH.

I brought it up jokingly to a couple of co-workers that had NIH's and they got all defensive.
