Of course there would still be arguments about who should get in for any type of playoff. Having an 8 team playoff means more games. Also once you get below the 8th best team those teams have much less of a shot of winning it all so it doesn't matter as much if they get left out. Most years there is a couple of elite teams and then another bunch a step below. It makes it less likely for the elite team to win every year too
