i think it was more just Saban realizing Kiffin was going to be gone after this year 1 way or another & Sark would be a great insurance policy if he can stay sober, being employed by Saban seems like a great environment for someone in recovery.

Kiffin wasn't going to be retained, no matter what
Bama loves rehabbing great coaches/recruiters. Sark was available

Or if Sark was a disaster Sabah would know it was more important to retain Kiffen.
