I see the anime takes place after their journey has started.. is this going to ruin some story elements?

Finally put in about 7 hours last night. Got to level 8. Explored quite a bit. Stumbled acrossing a little hidden fishing hole in hammerhead east of the car shop tucked away in some ruins. Seem to also have found a lot of that places that I assume I will return to to fight enemies and stuff. Both the FF and I are hooked. She's uploading prompto photos out the arse on Facebook.
