i'm surprised at the ignorance in this post Stevo. not one of the programs you listed got the first coach they wanted in their search. every one of them had to go down the line and settle on a lower choice.
my point is that being a top five program historically doesn't have a thing to do with our coaching search. LSU is at or near a top 5 program but top coaches make virtually the same money where they are now.

You'll notice my title thread included the present as well as the past. Historical basis counts for things like program support and resources. Michigan, for instance, was down a very long time, but I believe everyone still considered them a top 5 program. Sure enough, Harbaugh has them back.
