The "in the SEC" argument really doesn't mean anything anymore. If anything I'd argue it's better to be a Clemson or an FSU as you only have to win that game each year, and you're in. The playoff has diminished the need to be from the absolute best conference in the land. If you're at a top school in one of the better conferences, you'll be fine.

In a year Harbaugh will turn that roster over and have it humming like a well-oiled machine. It will be the same thing Ohio State did with Meyer. Those programs recruit the entire country. You could make an argument that the Michigan helmet and uni is below only things like the Yankee pinstripes and the Cowboy star as the most iconic imagine in all of sports let alone college football. I love LSU, but it's brand will never touch Michigan's, period.
