I have to say I'm pretty "meh" on this movie. It wasn't bad, I'm just disappointed on the lack of imagination. Really the only thing we learned about the American Wizarding World is they have a big building, a bar, and forbid contact with Muggles, despite the fact that they clearly live among them and interact with them daily, unlike British Wizards.
I think you could have done so much more with a Wizarding World in New York. There's really nothing to it aside from them living in apartments inhabited by fellow muggles. At least they could have had a Wizarding District where you could have gotten creative with all sorts of Wizards immigrating there and forming their own culture.
JKR needs to get a good writer from America who understands American culture to take over this franchise. It's not beyond repair, but a disappointing start. Hopefully the rest of the franchise is better and darker than this.
