I get what you're saying but saying "ally" or "with us" or "friend" and ME in the same sentence just doesn't work.

Its extraordinarily safe. Things like this are difficult to predict unfortunately.
We pay Jordan to be our friend, so this is a sad and frustrating tragedy.

They are. Spent nine months there myself, working with the Jordanian military. I've even been to the airbase this happened at several times. They're on our side, big time.
This is really unfortunate, but not unexpected. There are elements of the Jordanian population who've drank the "US is the root of all evil" koolaid.
