I assume Alabama would not be a target for Democrats to pick up a Senate seat?

I very seriously doubt it. Granted, Alabama had always elected Democratic Senators up until the 1981, when we had one Republican (Denton) and one Democratic (Heflin) Senator. Denton was then replaced by Shelby in 1987 (who was a Democrat for the first 8 or so years of his reign, until he switched to Republican in 1994), and Heflin was replaced by Republican Sessions in 1997. But keep in mind that "Dixie" Democrats were a different breed than what Democrats are today.
But I would be shocked to see Sessions replaced by a democrat at this point in time. I'm just concerned we would get someone in there that isn't nearly as competent or trustworthy as Sessions is.
