Could be a big factor. Carrying capacity for thick cutover can be as high as 1 deer per 5 acres. Where for mature woods (especially with pine mixed in) can be as low as 1 per 30 acres.

if you are hearing coyotes- start trapping-had same problem on lease- deer came back after two years of intensive killing of coyotes - big smart deer go where there is less pressure(danger) so do moms
