Teacher was completely in the wrong by assigning the book as was the school and school district for having it in the library. The poor child did NOTHING wrong but unfortunately will now feel paranoid for a long time over this. Had the school not backed down I would have recommended lawyering up.

Need to do that anyway - Seems like there is a good case for 'traumatizing' a child - first by assigning him to read a book about bloody murder - then asking him to de4scribe the carnage and draw a PICTURE of the 'climatic' moment - and THEN calling him on the carpet and threatening to suspend him..

If someone has deep pockets to initiate such a lawsuit they should make the School District go thru the expense of defending it and dealing with the attendant public scorn.

I worked as a math teacher for the final 13 years of my professional life - and the School Boards make all decisions based on 'avoiding a lawsuit."

Turn this shite back on them.
