One of the Calexit arguments addresses that. They think too many Californians are sent to war (which is dumb since the military is all volunteer). But they also don't think they need a large military. They assume that if they Calexit, terrorists will leave them alone since they're not part of the US. They're just a noninterventionist country halfway around the world.
