He can take a year undergrad and apply for grad school and take some undergrad classes while enrolled as graduate. It's faster. Most universities won't require every undergrad class in the audit.

oil companies won't care but they tend to hire from their intern pool. Doing an Internship program when getting your masters in geology is really important
