Agree.
Pence was picked for 2 reasons:
1. Sell Christian conservatives on DJT - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
2. Compliment DJT by being strong where he was perceived as weak. Classy, Proffesional, Calm - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Kaine was picked her 2 reasons:
1. Win Virginia - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
2. Sell males on HRC - EPIC FAILURE.
Pence was picked for 2 reasons:

On one hand, I think these VP picks were important because of the age of the nominees. And certainly HRC received a slight boost in VA from Kaine's selection.
On the other hand, the strong and contrasting personas of these candidates made the VP picks a second thought.
