and if Nick Saban is an elite coach.
Why hasn't he been able to recruit and develop an elite QB?

Because, just like us, all they need is average QB play to obtain major success.

Because he doesn't need to. He can take a 3 star QB and develop him into what he needs to run his system.

Because their system is "elite" and doesn't require a world-beater at the QB position....simply a game manager.

Kiffin does not get enough credit for his work under Saban.

Its obvious that in their program, and with kiffin calling the plays they only need a serviceable qb. I watched Hurts against atm, and let me tell you- the only thing impressive, was how he could scramble for a first down- every time he needed to. He has very little medium to deep passing ability. Kiffin has designed a game plan around his qb's weaknesses. He doesn't need to throw a long ball, if he can hit a receiver that can go 15 yac.

He's got a freshman playing pretty damn well. And I'd consider that AJ McCarron guy pretty close to elite.

He just threw OVER 5 TDs for every Int thrown (77/15 for his career) with a season with a 10:1 TD:Int ratio. I'd consider his Junior year where he threw 30 TDs to 3 Ints pretty damn elite.

He had a better passer rating that year than Andrew Luck ever had in college.

You're still posting? I figured you would have banned yourself for all the Miles pumping you have done over the years only to watch it unfold in front of your eyes what a fraud Miles was.

Great passers don't want to go to a program where they aren't going to be the focal point of the offense. Also, Saban probably doesn't want a me-first qb, which the vast majority of great high school qbs are. That leaves very few qbs. Any university is going to be heavily limited geographically, which hurts Saban bc most high schools in the south use athletes at qb.

I would say Saban has done a heck of a good job developing qbs.
