I went cold turkey after 12 years of smoking. Not nearly as long as you.
However, i was more of a casual smoker (only when I drank alcohol). I never had any problems or issues adjusting afterwards and I think it was because of the motivation I had. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and that's when I stopped. Really scared me straight. She passed after two years of Chemo. She smoked for maybe 30 years.
