Are you moving or just going for fun? I wouldn't recommend the drive if you're trying to go for a week, unless you have a tough time flying. it's about 17 hours (day and a half probably, unless you like to push it) and it doesn't get very pretty until the second day in virginia.

Just for fun. We'll be there for a week. One in our group has an issue with flying, but driving would also save us on airfare, which would allow us to stay in a nicer place. Looking at some Airbnb properties because of the full kitchen aspect helping with meals.

If you go through Birmingham/Chattanooga, it starts getting scenic just past Birmingham and pretty much stays so till you reach DC. Basically, only your first 4 hours or so is a shitty drive through Mississippi and Central Alabama.
